The Big Chalk Nature Recovery Fund has reached an exciting early milestone. Launched in August with £750,000 of capital funding, the fund sparked extraordinary interest from farmers, landowners, conservation organisations, and community groups — proof of a shared determination to restore and reconnect our chalk and limestone places at scale.
Within just two months, the first round of funding was fully allocated, reflecting a shared ambition to restore habitats, strengthen connectivity, and create space for nature to thrive.
Across southern England, partners have come forward with bold, practical ideas. Projects that will revive species-rich chalk grasslands, breathe new life into rare chalk streams, enhance ancient woodland, and weave together the corridors that wildlife needs to move and thrive in a changing climate. We’re now progressing due diligence and onboarding, with more details to follow as these collaborations take shape.
This is what happens when more than 150 organisations pull in the same direction for nature.
